February brought new safe custody enhancements as well as features to streamline legal workflows and enhance efficiency in Smokeball. Check out below what we launched last month.
Safe Custody Enhancements
Available to: Grow and Prosper+ clients
What’s new: Smokeball now allows users to edit, delete, and restore safe custody packets and documents—ensuring accuracy while maintaining a complete audit trail.
These enhancements minimise errors, strengthen compliance, and align with legal standards like including the Legal Profession Uniform General Rules 2015 - reg 94.
With our latest updates, you can now:
- Edit packet and document details to keep records accurate and up to date.
- Capture a reason for changes, with a full change history log.
- Delete packets and documents, with built-in checks to prevent accidental removal.
- Restore deleted packets and documents, so nothing is lost permanently.
- Show or hide deleted items to keep your records tidy.
- Customise packet settings, including visibility of external and firm references.
These updates were rolled out in version 9.6 earlier this month. You don’t need to take any action—your safe custody register will automatically include these new features.
Manage branch offices with ease
What’s new: You can now assign matters to specific branch offices for better oversight. More reporting and billing enhancements coming soon.
Archie gets smarter
This update will enable you to:
- Search chat titles
- View other users’ chats within a Matter
- Get AI-generated call summaries
- Refine client messages with AI
- Ask about tasks and events

What’s new: Smokeball Boost now logs activities like matter creation, tasks, events, and messages—helping firms capture more billable hours automatically.
